Chapter 1 (and some stuff from Chapter 4 that will come out soon) was shot in a real abandoned asylum in Northern Italy, Mombello (built in 1872 as requested by Napoleone). There are many legends and true horror stories about this psychiatric institute and the building tells some of the stories itself. The ubderground secret tunnels lead to Monza which is not that close. There people found X-rays (that we found too and we used one in our short, see the picture), they also fouund corpses, fetuses and more... In 2017 Johnny Depp went to Mombello as well to shot "7 days 7 girls" a short directed by Luciano Silighini Garagnani.
On our set, in 2015, we had no electricity or heat, even if we decided to work in the spring season, inside the asylum it was extremely cold, of corse it was given by humidity and the mold all around the building. As a result, we had warm coats and blankets to wear between takes. Some areas of the Asylum are entirely covered by broken glass pieces, vandals broke the windows to get inside the building ages ago. So also for safety reasons we decided to wear boots and to shot just in daylight, and also because the asylum gets incredibly dark at night and there are no street lights. It was fun and spooky at the same time, is definitely a fun story to tell.
